Pressing Issues for Congress

Congress is back session and there two critical transportation issues that must be addressed immediately. John Horsley executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials returns to the Briefing Room, to discuss why lawmakers must pass an extension of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) which authorizes spending for Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety, and transit through September of this year.  Horsley says without an extension “consistency and continuity will turn into urgency and uncertainty, if Congress fails to act.” Also in this segment, Horsley simplifies the complicated and pressing issue of “recessions.”
