Maryland SHA: Smart, Green & Growing
In this video the Maryland State Highway Administration highlights its role in Governor Martin O'Malley's initiative to restore the Chesapeake Bay and preserve the State's environment. Called "Smart, Green & Growing" the campaign is designed to revitalize communities, create green jobs, improve transit, conserve energy and address climate change.
SHA continually employees innovative practices and methods to ensure environmental stewardship in every phase of highway construction. The SHA is putting high tech transponders on turtles to track them for relocation, creating oyster reefs, building ladders for fish, and using goats to keep down vegetation in place of lawn mowers and weed-whackers.
SHA goes far beyond the letter of the law when it comes to its responsibility to Mother Earth.
